Touch Screens

Intro 1 2 3

In 2008, I was asked by Orca Creative Group's lead designers, Tony Grant and Karyn Holyk, to create seven touch screen kiosk interfaces which are now on permanent display in the downtown Vancouver head offices of Canada's largest diversified mining company, Teck (formerly known as Teck Cominco).

These animated and engaging touch screens offer visitors rich multimedia content covering topics such as Teck's Olympic sponsorship, its support of community events, its mining operations and corporate history.

As freelance senior designer, I compressed the video, laid out all of the text and related content, developed the graphics, animation, navigation and transisitions and did most of the preliminary programming for these Flash interfaces. Matt Belzberg stepped in to work his magic on the code for the lighting effects and video controllers. A number of cascading lighting effects illuminate mining artifacts on display near each kiosk within the exhibit space. These effects are triggered when a kiosk visitor advances to a specific story within an interface. Screen from a Teck interactivty
